About Blackpowder at NSRG

Black Powder shoots at NSRG are open to both club members and non-members. Whether you are an experienced black powder enthusiast or simply curious about this historic style of shooting, you are welcome to attend and learn more.

If you do not own a black powder firearm, we still encourage you to join us. Members of the group are often willing to share their knowledge and, where appropriate and safe to do so, may offer newcomers the opportunity to experience black powder shooting under supervision.

Non-member participants attending as guests must be signed in by an NSRG member, complete the required waiver, and pay the applicable guest fee in accordance with club policies.

We welcome anyone with an interest in black powder shooting and invite you to come out, meet fellow enthusiasts, and experience this unique shooting discipline.

Black Powder Shooting

Black powder firearms represent the origins of the shooting sports and the development of modern firearms technology. The term black powder came into common use during the late nineteenth century to distinguish traditional gunpowder from the newer smokeless and semi-smokeless propellants that were being introduced at the time.

The NSRG Black Powder group celebrates the history, craftsmanship, and shooting traditions associated with these early firearms. Participants enjoy a variety of shooting disciplines using flintlock, percussion, and black powder cartridge firearms, reflecting the evolution of firearms from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Whether your interest is historical firearms, traditional marksmanship, competitive shooting, or simply experiencing a unique part of shooting history, black powder shooting offers a rewarding and enjoyable connection to the sport's heritage.
